Mysticism is the response of man to the great majesty of the universe. In approaching the vast expanse of creation it is a dead soul indeed that does not experience awe and wonder. As equally great an expanse to explore as the outer landscape, is the inner one. Mysticism is the name given to this exploration.

  • Meditation for the Busy Person!

This is a simple set of meditation practises that anyone can try. By a lady called Sandra Lee Schubert - you can find her website at Earth and Sky.

  • An Overview of Gnosis

This document contains a general overview of gnosis. It should be read by anyone interested in understanding the what gnosis is and what differentiates it from other forms of mystic experience. Gnosis is a term for the practise of the knowledge of God - in terms of experience. It is not the same as the Gnostic heresy which some theologians may be familiar with !

  • Mindfulness of Breathing

An article of mine on a basic meditation called The Mindfulness of Breathing. It is a concentration exercise - but more than this, it can help you step back into the garden of your mind.

  • Soul Shapes

This book is an allegory of the human soul - a word picture of the landscape of the soul. This mystical story of the origins of the soul is from the end of the nineteenth century. Underneath the 'quaint' and crafted exterior, is a unique world view. Particularly relevant is the distinction it draws between deep and surface souls - see if you can see yourself in the descriptions within. Soul Shapes, T. Fisher Unwin, London, MDCCCXC.

  • Words of Wisdom

Words of wisdom drawn from the Indian and Celtic traditions. These three inspiring passages say a lot about the nature of God and the truth about ourselves. I find The Invitation especially inspiring and convicting.

The articles in this section were all written by me. Despite this, some of them are worth reading.

  • Biblical Truth

What is truth ? This article on biblical truth looks at what sort of truth we expect to find in the bible. Is it a historical record, a mystical text, or something in between ? In the second part, by looking at the use of allegory and spiritual principles, it shows that it's possible to reconcile Genesis and modern science.

  • Christian Meditation

Meditation is not necessarily normally associated with Christianity. In fact Christianity has a rich tradition of meditation, and it is a valuable practise in growing in relationship with God.

  • Imagine Paradise

Imagine paradise. An article on community living, Christian Community to be precise - As attempted by the Jesus Army.

  • Symbols and Sacraments

An article on Sacraments and Symbols. Mainly of relevance to the Christian faith but also anyone interested in why symbols carry such force.

The pages here are all related to the Christian faith. That's why I've called it the Christian section.

  • Christian Books for Download

This page gathers a few books with Christian themes. It includes some fiction, as well as some Classic Christian texts.

  • A Brief Biography of Watchman Nee

This is an extract from the testimony of Watchman Nee. It covers from before he was a Christian, up to his early ministry.

  • Watchman Nee

This is an index page to some of the spiritual writings of a chinese Christian known as Watchman Nee. Full of genuine spiritual insight and practical instruction for building the church; these articles have more substance than anything else on this website !

Dionysius the Areopagite, otherwise known as St.Denis was a Christian mystical writer from around 500 AD. His works have had a profound influence on western theology, but more than this - they have a genuine and mystical appreciation of spirituality. Particularly his work on Celestial Heirarchies, is one of the few Christian mystical writings on the subject. His brand of mysticism is often placed within the Athenian NeoPlatonic school of thought.

  • The Celestial Heirarchy

One of the more famous pieces of writing by Dionysius the Aeropagite. It explores the different orders and heirarchies of created celestial beings. It carries a real sense of the awe and power of God. It also explores the use of metaphor in scripture in bringing us into an appreciation of the spiritual.

  • The Mystical Theology

A shorter work on theology, again by Dionysius the Aeropagite.

1 John 2 : 10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

1 John 3 : 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.

1 John 4 : 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
