Oh yes and another thumbs up to the internet... today we made five pounds because of the internet...... Someone discovered that we sell Spear and Jackson coping saw blades by looking them up on the internet and I charged him five pounds to stick a pack in an envelope for him....... marvellous.

Today I`m really disturbed. Do any of you remember Pippi Longstockings ? She`s a bold red-headed star of childrens books - they`re meant to be for girls but I read them when I was young (yes I know... that explains a lot...) Well apparantly my glamorous assistant (Aaron - who helps me in sales intermittently) did a website in his younger days with a tribute to the brave explorer of the South Seas - Pippi herself.......

He couldn`t remember the address so we did a google for Pippi Longstockings - and yep... you guessed it... we got back a load of *pornography* sites... apparntly loads of people out their have a fetish for Pippi Longstockings....... bizarre... there goes childhood innocence again.......

I was reading the daily telegraph this morning, now despite being run by right wing reactionaries its actually the best of the british papers - the rest are boring or insipid...... In one of the columns were two jokes that are great ! But I live in a community house full of ignoble fiends - ok so they`re my brothers and I love them, but they don`t appreciate physics jokes. It was very frustrating having these two jokes and knowing I couldn`t share them with anyone.......

So I rushed into work this morning knowing I could share them with you :D .

Anyway here goes -

Why did the chicken cross the mobius strip ? To get to the same side of course.....

Heisenburg was stopped for speeding. The traffic cop asked him "do you know how fast you were going ?". "No" replied Heisenburg "but I know exactly where I am"....

That last one is great - but I guess not all of you are going to get it *sigh* - I`ll have to send it to my Dad !!

Anyway in website updates -

Wittgensteins Philosophical Investigations is now in but needs the images and the links sorting.

I have also completely rewritten 'Of Truth and Symbols'. It is now about the power of symbols and sacraments and nothing to do with evolution !! Much better.

I`m writing a little article on evolution - its a bit mindy but at least then its done......

Nothing much to report today (*ahem* - so why bother saying anything I hear you cry) well the lovely crew at the Cyber Society have linked to us and are offering some juicy treats for download and so I`ve added links to them all over ye olde shoppe.... Working on a gallery section for photos and pictures, a proper philosophy library and still trying to drum up inspiration for an article on meditation....

I forgot to mention didn`t I.... Saturday at the marquee (our easter knees up that I mentioned in my blog a couple of days ago) someone comes up to me and gives me a CD burner...... ten minutes later someone comes with seven sandman novels to lend me....... far out.... about as good as it gets I reckon.... oh yeah - the meetings over the weekend weren`t bad as well..............

Well - today is a day of much oddness....... First off a huge panic trying to track down different coloured concrete circle slabs that we`ve delivered to wrong bits of the country (*ahem* three times wrongly in one case - thankfully it had *nothing* to do with me this time... until today when I`m the only bugger around who can sort it out *sigh*). Second off doing the backlog of email enquiries. We`re a small builders merchant in the midlands of the UK who deliver on reasonably small lorries to builders within a 15 mile radius of our two depots. We also happen to have quite a nice website. Because our entire product range is on there if you google something like 'Backerloy Immersion Heater' then we are the only response that comes back.... cool huh !! Cool for you - not for us if you happen to live on Jupiter and want to replace your dead Backerloy heater and expect us to beam it up to you !!

Anyway - today I have priced a door closer to Malyasia !! I quoted them for one, collected - I expect the air fare to come and collect it probably makes us more expensive than the competition but you never know !!

Thirdly I received in the post a Sony Clie touch screen. This was sent to me free by James of pdascreens.co.uk as he thought it might be the same pinout to my broken Jornada screen and a *very* similar size..... Guess what.... the bugger works !! So I now have two Jornada 525s but only one sync-cable..... I may be able to get work to buy the two Jornadas and swap for one shiny new Dell Axim X5 400mhz..... Yeeha......

Anyway... this is all by way of introduction to a website update.......

There are now additions to the pratchett page and the Gaiman page as well as a new book in the spiritual section called Soul Shapes. Its a beautiful little nineteenth century allegory of the soul - not too long and easy to read. Oh, and I rewrote my bizarre ramble evolutionary biology and turned it into an article called Of Truth and Symbols about symbols and stuff......... Quite Christian but I`m trying to get away from my mindy unreadable style of writing..... not sure if I succeeded. The last section about 'spiritual realms' is still weird but theres a middle bit which is one way of reconciling Genesis and evolution... so may be of interest to some.

A few other minor tweaks to indexes and the such like but I`m sure you`ll discover them. I`m still working on a philosphical work called 'Philosphical Investigations' by Wittgenstein which is one of the major modern(ish?) philosophical works about language. I`m also working on converting over a book on nano-technology for the science section... both should arrive soon.

Now, the article on symbols, combined with the fact that I`ve been reading a lot of Sandman recently led me to think about truth..... (What actually inspired this in fact was talking about the forthcoming Terminator movie - to be entirely truthful). Take for example the parables of Jesus - like the story of the good Samaritan. Now it undoubtably contains truth... and yet it is not itself true..... odd huh !! Much fiction is like that - so which is the *true* bit... doubtless Morpheus of Sandman could tell us..... dreams are *always* true....

Well...... I thought I`d done my blog for the day and could get on with editing content. I'm trying to work on a lovely little book called Soul Shapes for the spiritual section. (I apologise for any spelling mistakes - for once I have a genuine excuse, I`m practising touch typing. I've been trying to learn for ages but am still about ten times slower than I am with four fingers and so getting the motivation to practise is difficult.....). *ahem* just seen a bizzare article on launching a 'denial-of-service' attack (a kind of hacking - used to attack websites) via the postal service - not only bizarre, but in the words of slashdot ' it exploits the boundary between cyberspace and the real world.'

Theres also buried somewhere on the web an article about a new robot thats been built to give massages... including 3d laser mapping cameras to work out the body (stuff touch-typing I`ve been using 4 fingers for 15 years now...). Hmmm... I`ve got an idea for a birthday present I`m after............

Well, the world gets stranger every day. Hardly a new thought.......... but its fun to say..............

I`m sitting here on a saturday morning listening to Virgin Radio which is beamed across the internet and have just read about how parallel universes are serious science these days !! Not only that but NASA has just started working on wiring chips with nanotubes instead of copper - that means building microscopic tubes almost atom by atom to conenct bits inside the chip.... far out man........ Man is getting cleverer but almost certainly no wiser................ Who was it who said that cyberpunk is no longer the world of the future but the world of the present..... ??..... probably lots of people - but I think its Alx Cyberpunk who I heard it from !!

Far out... we`ve got our big bank holiday weekend on - starting later this afternoon - when all our church (about 1500-2000) people get together for a knees up - great fun !! Trust the weather to change from glorious sunshine to gale force winds !! (Hey - I`m English - I`m supposed to discuss the weather !! Actually its perfect marquee weather - this way people stay inside and take part instead of loafing off in the sunshine !!

On the subject of which - I was ill a couple of weeks ago with a flue/sore throat infection thing. I don`t get ill very often but I hate getting minging sore throats.... yeeeuck..... anyway, earlier this week I had a tickly throat and cold and thought 'b*gger - ill again'.... after three days I worked it out.......... hay fever !! It catches me by surprise every year... so I`m back on the drugs and much happier...........

"By injecting radioactive tracers into Michael's bloodstream as he reached the height of a meditative trance, Newberg could use a brain scanner to image the brain at a religious climax."

Now theres a sentence you don`t read everyday. Thats from the summary of a BBC Horizon programme on 'the physiological evidence for religious experience' - my title not theirs !! Looks well interesting anyway.....

Well.... more updates in progress - if you like Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Aleister Crowley, drinking tea or meditating then there are new pages on my website for you...... for once I won`t list the URLs but leave you to explore.....

Oh my goodness I was hoping to post a blog full of incisive wit and hilarious commentary on life and society *ahem* well at any rate put something vaguely worth reading...... and guess what I failed, too busy, too hassled, too lazy !!

Hey - I`m becoming cosmipolitan - I spent the weekend relaxing with dutch friends (shout going out to DJ Devid) and yesterday with Romanian friends..... and have e-mail contact with a friend in America, one in New Zealand (good old Atlantis !!), one in Spain and one in France....... wow..... the internet is shrinking the world... hey - do you think that counts as social commentary ? (or do you think it might have been said before).

Anyway - I`ve put the first part of my life story on the internet (introspective - who, me ?) and also done a huge page on Terry Pratchett.... links below.

Diving or Drowning ? - my Autohagiography
The Terry Pratchett Page

If you have a slow connection the Pratchett page might take a while to load... sorry.....

And the guy who was looking at replacing the touch screen for my broken Jornada is sending me one he thinks will work... wait for it... for free !!!! My goodness, it restores my faith in human nature....

Aha... more changes......

I`ve edited the space propulsion article so that its a lot neater with some internal links and so on. I`ve also put some fancy pictures on the science and technology index page. Theres a nifty explanation of nanotechnology and nanocomputers on one of them and the other is a funky calvin and hobbes cartoon..........

I still want to add a lot more to the science page... its the one I haven`t really worked on. I`ve got a book on nanotech to add, a complex book on einstein and hawkings brief time that I`ll add...... but all in good time.....

There we go. I put a funky "powered by blogger" button at the bottom of the blog page. I also got rid of the amazon box hurrah !!

Seems like we`ve got some new members of the void-shockz message group. Most of them are pretty quiet other than Tim who is just bizzarre ! Oh well, you`ve got to have a few nuts in the cake or it just wouldn`t seem right......

I actually worked on some content of my own last night.... double hurrah.........

Heres the opening chapter of HumanOS 1.2 which I did the second draft of last night. It still needs work, particularly the end, but its a lot better than it was and it gives the answer to the 'crocdile conundrum' later in the article.......

HumanOS v1.2

There's an amazing parallel to be drawn between modern computer operating systems and the human personality. The other ridiculous statement that goes with that ridiculous statement is that modern computers are made far too much like newly hatched crocodiles and not enough like babies in order to ever be intelligent. What do crocodiles have to do with computers and what does 'windows' have to do with my personality ? Well, perhaps this piece can answer that, or something a bit like that anyway.

Good huh.....

Oh yeah, more bizarreness last night - I had this weird encounter with Noel, who is the pastor of our church. He`s not just the head of the local church but the national one as well.... but I think he misunderstood something I said and it ended with him wondering off thinking I had a problem with him and me wondering what had just happened.... oops I hope we haven`t fallen out. Oh and some Romanian couple are coming to visit us next week which should be interesting.

Hmmm... by the way I don`t think I`ve credited www.blogger.com anywhere on this site. They provide the tools for me to easily update this 'blog' - all free and very helpful it is too.

Hmmm... got a Jesus Centre meeting on Saturday so have to prepare a few things.... its really nice to feel *needed* and have people listen to what I say.... why didn`t I try that before ?? lol - doesn`t happen often.

Anyway - I`ve added some more stuff to the site :-

Theres an info dump directory with lots of cyberpunk and science articles to root trhough. You can access it through the cyberpunkproject index page.

Theres also a couple of book download pages.

Classic Sci-Fi and
Other Books....

Lots of great books to download... all hosted on another site.
Thats all for now I think...... I still want to work on the science and computer sections (as well as my own articles) so if you come across anything interesting do send it in.........

I had two days off ill last week and as a result the three newsletters I subscribe to began to pile up in my inbox..... what with the work piling up as well I haven`t yet manage to catch up !! I now have 31 emails in my inbox... all CNET, OSDN (open source) and Wired newsletters...... and guess what ?? I enjoy them too much to delete them so I`m ploughing my way through them....

Now this guy has a hobby that sounds fun !!

One cold, clear night five years ago, Greg Leyh stood inside a cage atop a 39-foot steel pole. Waving a metal rod like a magician on a mountaintop, Leyh shot lightning bolts to the ground, creating brilliant white tracks against the black sky. He had built Tesla coils before, but this was the first time he'd conducted electricity from on high. The effect was mesmerizing. "They looked like cracks in the black fabric of the universe," he recalls. "Like seeing through to the other side."

Sorry I`m really busy....... no time to blog... *sigh*

"The trouble with modern computers is they`re made too much like newly-hatched crocodiles and not enough like babies"..... wow and I said it before lunch time too..... That has to rank as the most profound thing I`ve said of today !! I`ll explain later.... when I work it into my HumanOS article - I reckon its due for a rewrite !!

I got attacked in Atlantis - OK though, it had to happen and it didn`t do much damage.

Done lots of stuff for my site on my handheld... just need to upload it !!

My throat still hurts.... what a bitter irony to get a throat infection just before seeing your girlfriend who you haven`t seen for a month !!! Oh well it was great to see her and we had a good long chat.

Atlantis is coming along great... all my flying monkeys are getting into position !! Actually if your remotely interested one of my alles has been attacked by the most experience player in the game. A couple of mages zoomed up with balrogs and dragons in tow and whooped him for the insulting messages he's been posting in the Atlantis Times........ ouch... that'll learn him !!! We have to help him rebuild and continue the long slow build up for war that is inevitably coming.... I think they call this the phony war period. In the meantime I`m expanding quicker than I imagined possible (no... not just my waistline)

The voidspace spring clean and facelift has gone well :

The rotating ads should now work on *all* pages (now that he correct
tags are in place *ahem*) and a few well placed FONT tags should also
have neatened things up a bit.

The main changes though are that the cybepunk page has a separate index
page for William Gibson, the Psychology page has a separate index for
Carl Jung and the spiritual page has a new index for a gentleman called
Watchman Nee......

(oh and theres a review of William Gibsons Pattern Recognition up there
as well......)

The URLs as follows...........

Gibson Index
Jung Index
Nee Index

Now all I need is to get PHP working properly when INCLUDED in another
page and anything will be hunky dory.......

Oh and it looks like the DNS issues should be sorted so I shouldn`t get
any more *I can`t get to your site* complaints.... I hope so anyway....

Once again thanks to Justin for his advice and help with FTP`ing etc....

Hmmmm..... still feel like I should be working harder though..... at last managed to get hold of the lady who runs the community centre we want to use for one of the groups I`m starting.... I rang three times on Saturday and at various other tiems as well... all to no avail.... finally got it sorted though so I can make some progress on my Jesus Centre projects......

Ha - I`m still ill, but I`d rather be at work than at home......

Anyway - voidspace is undergoing phase two of the facelift. Should all be a lot 'nicer'. The psychology page and cyberpunk index pages have been re-organised to be less cramped and I`ve added some genuinely spiritual content to the 'esoteric' section.

And on top of all that I got an email from blue-iridium (my web hoster) saying they are sorting my problems out... hunky funky dory.... wow. Just got lots of 'debugging' to do on all the coding I did whilst I was ill.....
