A Helping Hand
I'm not a gambler, but there are plenty of people that are. If you play online poker, especially the infamous Texas Hold-Em, then there is something you'll find useful.
Pokerbility is a real time assistant that will calculate odds for you while you play. It will suggest plays for you, depending on how tight a game you want to play.

There is a shareware version, for free download, so give it a try.

Multimedia in the Palm of Your Hand
Modern PDAs are capable of so much more than taking notes and keeping track of your calender.
Why buy a portable mp3 player, when you may already be carrying around a much more capable machine in your pocket, and that's only the half of it.
This article by Rene Tse looks at different ways of using your PDA as a portable multimedia system. It covers using your PDA for receiving streaming audio and video, receiving radio, photo blogging, podcasting and all the rest of it :

Palm Releases a Windows Mobile Treo
Great technologies come and go. Unfortunately, in the brutal survival of the fittest of the commercial world, it's not always the best that come through. My blog entry Picking the Losing Technology looks at some of the technologies I've been involved in over the years. I mourn the passing of some of these.
Sometimes though, the companies behind a seemingly defunct technology (or business model) can re-invent themselves and live to fight another day. IBM are perhaps a classic example of this.
In the battle for PDA operating systems, there used to be a behemoth called Palm. The Palm Operating System had the lions share of the market. It was easy to program for, had a thriving open source community producing programs and utilities for it, and many fans. Unfortunately the Palm operating system had certain built in limitations, and didn't scale well to the new breed of mobile computers with more memory, bigger screens and faster processors [1]. Despite improvements it has waned in popularity and seen its market share dwindle in favour of Windows Mobile devices, Symbian Smartphones and even Linux based PDAs.
After Palm acquired Handspring they became a manufacturer of smartphone devices, in the form of the Treo. The Treo has been a successful mobile phone/PDA and remains popular.
It looks like they Palm has taken a new turn in their history, the Treo 700W uses Windows Mobile 5.
Note
My own personal experience of the Windows CE range of operating system has been good.
Rene Tse has posted a Review of the Palm Treo 700W to my Techie Blog. It makes for interesting reading, especially if you are considering a new PDA or mobile phone.
| [1] | This is the potted history of Palm according to me, and so must be taken with a pinch of salt. I think it's basically right, but it's based on my hazy understanding; so caveat emptor. |

The Old Blog Archives
There was so much ancient wisdom distilled into my old blog, that I couldn't let it just creep ignominiously into the pages of cyber-history. More to the point I'm still getting some hits from google with the old entries. Here are the archives of my previous Blogger based blog.
